World On Our Doorstep
Friday 28th September at 6:00 pm-Sunday 30th September at 11:00 pm
28th – 30th September
Chapel Allerton, Leeds
Celebrating the musical heritage and diversity of Leeds, featuring the range and breadth of the music of our area, including Irish; Caribbean; Asian; Eastern European and Yorkshire.
We will celebrate traditional music that continues in Leeds, as well as representing the fusion of influences and contemporary forms that have grown into a unique melting pot of sound and song.
The festival also offers a number of workshops, allowing opportunities for participants of all levels to sample new music forms such as gypsy jazz guitar, African/Asian drumming, vocal harmony from Brazil, India and UK and more, with sessions led by professional musicians.
Kicking off on the evening of Friday 28th September with a launch event at The Polish Centre, there will be workshops at The Methodist centre and a family-friendly Ceilidh on Sunday afternoon. Throughout the weekend there will be concerts at Seven Arts, Inkwell and The Polish Centre (next door to Chapel Allerton Hospital) and ‘pop-up gigs’ all weekend at Alley Cats Bar on Harrogate Road (opposite The Three Hulats).
The concerts will feature local musical legends such as Dudley Nesbit (Calypso); Christella Litras (Carnival Messiah/Caution! Collective); and Cleve Freckleton, as well as a wealth of young exciting talent. The festival is supported by The Irish Arts foundation, South Asian Arts and Black Music Festival (Black Health Initiative) and JazzLeeds in partnership with Seven Arts, The Polish Catholic Centre, Inkwell, Alley Cats Bar and MEWL Music.
Weekend tickets will be available for full access to all the events.
Day tickets will be available for Saturday & Sunday only.
Entry to individual concerts will also be available via paying on the door.
Advance ticket price may be subject to booking fee.
