The Washboard Resonators

Sunday 2nd December at 6:00 pm

Influenced and inspired by jazz, ragtime, hokum, blues, comedy and vaudeville sounds of Louis Armstrong, Blind Boy Fuller, Fred Astaire, The Washboard Rhythm Kings, Robert Johnson, Gene Krupa, Max Miller, Tampa Red and The Memphis Jug Band; The Washboard Resonators’ passion, energy and sheer musicality is a joy to experience.

During May of 2018 they travelled through the USA from New Orleans to Chicago collecting old instruments for stage use and chasing down the ghosts of their beloved old music and seeing the cities and sites in which it was made. While in Memphis they recorded at the legendary Sun Studios for their release ‘The Sun Sessions’, an EP of five original songs. This is duo at the top of their game … come see them at their live best!

Jack has an extraordinary talent. In his hands, the washboard becomes an instrument of infinite possibility giving the music a unique sound filled with rhythm and power. Coupled with Martyn, a guitar player of both substance and style the pair deliver a technically brilliant set full of foot stomping anthems. Classic tracks are interspersed with original songs. The audience love it and it’s easy to see why. The Washboard Resonators take the street corner music of yesteryear and serve it up for the delight of a modern audience. This old music is for most of us completely new. These songs have a way of getting inside your head, reminding us not to forget them”. — Nick Evans, afterdark.com
